There are many images and ideas in our world. “ My goal is to communicate what I see and feel; to record and explore emotions that you can feel; beauty that can move you; truths to stretch your imagination, and to show you not just what is but what could be”.
Some of my paintings are seen as realism; others highlight symbols, patterns and abstraction, combining many styles and mediums in the art of completing a vision.
In exploring the extensive vocabulary of art available to us, I’ve made my current style the contemporary Representational Abstraction.
A lifelong painter, Kay holds a bachelor’s degree in art and philosophy from the Dominican University in Illinois and has studied further at the Art Institute of Chicago; Oxford University in England; and with leading artists in the United States. Kay has been active on boards of art groups in Minnesota and Michigan and is a member of national and international organizations.
Among her current memberships are the Internationale Vriendenkring in Belgium (where she was given a solo exhibition); Three Cities Art Club, the Plymouth Community Arts Council, and she holds signature membership in the International Society of Experimental Artists (ISEA). Kay's work is in collections in the U.S. and Europe and has earned many awards.
Kay works primarily in Acrylics although she also creates in watercolor, oil and mixed and dry media. She has designed prize winning stage sets; book covers (e.g. the Elders Speak) and has published a Christmas Booklet of original poetry and art. Two of her paintings were selected for the first of North Light’s Book series “The Best of Acrylic Painting.”
A Michigan artist, Kay resides in Plymouth, annually returning to Beaver Island, Michigan where she grew up.
Among her recent work is a series of acrylic paintings on canvas which focus on a theme of faces and the emotions that might be behind them. The style includes paintings with chess and youth symbolisms, and a series of “golden” groups. The work was titled “People See; People Do” and was exhibited in August, 2018 at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill in Canton, Michigan.
